Equipment

  • bowl or tray x 2
  • microwave
  • baking sheet with parchment paper

Ingredients

  • 12 oz chocolate chocolate almond bark or candy melts work too.
  • 24 Ritz Crackers
  • 6 tbs Nutellla
  • 3 candy canes crushed

Instructions

  • Prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper. Set aside.
  • In a bowl, microwave the chocolate on high for 2 minutes. Stir. Repeat in 1 minute intervals until melted and glossy.
  • Spread a small amount of Nutella on a Ritz Cracker and then use another Ritz Cracker to make a tiny cracker sandwich. Don't put too much nutella or it will want to sploosh out.
  • Dip 1/3 to the whole thing of the Ritz sandwich in the chocolate and lay on the prepared baking sheet on top of the parchment paper.
  • Sprinkle the wet chocolate with crushed candy cane pieces or other candy that you prefer.
  • Let chocolate harden before moving.

Notes

  • We have made these with both chocolate chips and with melting chocolate candy and prefer the candy type coating. It melts well, hardens quickly and the toppings stick easily to it.
  • Coating the crackers works best if you have a shallow tray or plate to put the chocolate in and then roll the crackers in the chocolate.
  • The same works for the topping, place it on a plate and then sprinkle on the topping.
  • It's easiest to only coat the top 1/3 of the cracker, but people seem to like crackers completely covered in chocolate.
  • Lay these on a sheet of parchment paper or wax paper to cool and allow the chocolate to harden completely.
  • The little plastic bags that are for individually wrapping cookies make a suitable cover for these treats.
  • If they aren't wanting to harden up, place the whole tray in the freezer for a few minutes.
  • And HEY! If you want to share with someone about the history of candy canes and impress them beyond belief (or bore them) then go learn about that right here!
