Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

What Are The Directions For Stove Top Stuffing?

It couldn't be easier!

  1. Heat 1.5 cups of water and 4 Tbs of butter on the stovetop. (I used chicken broth and this adds a lot of flavor).
  2. When the water is boiling, turn the heat off and add the package of breadcrumbs.
  3. Stir very well.
  4. Put the lid back on and allow to sit for 5 minutes.
  5. Serve hot.

How Do You Cook Two Boxes of Stove Top Stuffing?

So EASY!

Just double the recipe and use a larger sauce pan (probably a 3 quart size pan).

  • 3 Cups of liquid,
  • 8 Tbs of butter,
  • 2 packages of Stove Top Stuffing.

Can You Make Stove Top Stuffing Without Butter?

Yes, absolutely you can, especially if you have a dairy sensitivity.

To add some flavor back, you may want to do one of the following...

  • Use chicken stock instead of water (or vegetable stock).
  • Add vegetable oil instead of butter.
  • Use a butter substitute instead of butter.

I personally tried the stovetop stuffing without the butter and it tastes fine, it just has a tiny bit less flavor.

Is Stove Top Stuffing Good?

Yes! It is very good and you can try the various flavors!

As you can see from the video, I like to add some garlic powder and dried thyme to mine.

Be careful not to add any salt until you taste it and see how it stacks up against your salt tastes. There's already salt in there. I didn't think it needed any extra.

Can I Use Oil Instead of Butter for Stuffing?

Yes! Absolutely! That is the perfect solution if you can't use or don't have butter.

How Much Liquid Do You Put In Stuffing?

For Stove Top Stuffing, you add 1 Β½ cups of liquid for each package of stove top stuffing.

Can You Make Stuffing The Day Before?

Sure you can! That said, this only takes a few minutes to whip up and it's so much better hot off the stove, you might want to consider just making it at the time of your meal, but it won't hurt to make it ahead.

Simply warm back up in the oven at 350 for about 20 minutes.

Can You Use Chicken Broth Instead of Water For Stove Top Stuffing?

Yes! absolutely! In fact, that is what I recommend to add a bunch of flavor to your stuffing!

If you prefer vegetable broth instead, that works too!

Do You Put an Egg In Stuffing?

Stove Top Stuffing does NOT require an egg! It sticks together on its own and it is YUMMY!

Stove Top Stuffing Hacks

So, you want some hacks? It's hard to hack something that is already so easy!

The best hacks I know are to add a little of the things you love to the stuffing, try some...

  • boiled eggs
  • pieces of turkey or chicken
  • some tiny pieces of fresh celery
  • extra seasoning like garlic powder, sage, thyme.
  • sautΓ©d red, yellow, green peppers.

Can I Freeze Stove Top Stuffing?

Yes! You can freeze stove top stuffing. Just put it in a freezer safe container, squeeze out as much air as possible and freeze for up to 3 months.

How Long Does Stove Top Stuffing Last?

  • It will last in the fridge, covered for up to 5 days.
  • Do not allow to sit out for longer than 2 hours.

Tips and Tricks

  • It's just fine to substitute oil for the butter in this recipe or to use butter substitute instead. In fact, this stuffing still tastes great without any butter or oil at all, it just tastes better with it!
  • If you really want to boost the flavor, use some chicken stock, beef stock or vegetable stock instead of water in this recipe.
  • I like to add any extra herbs to the liquid before adding the bread package, this helps spread those herbs out very well.
  • If you forget to add the butter while boiling the liquid, it still works just fine to add the butter after you mix it all together. Simply put the lid on, let the butter melt, and then stir it all together. (That's what happened in the video).
  • There are LOTS of flavors of stove top, here's an example.

This week I have been so angry over the things that are happening in the world. Then the Lord lead me to James 1. I recommend it to you as well. Here's an excerpt.

James 1: 26-27

Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless. Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world

Thank you for the great substitution ideas for making Stove Top stuffing without butter or margarine. I used vegetable oil added some Mrs Dash Table blend seasoning & it was very tasty.

Just curious, what version or translation did you use for the James 1 verse? Also you can never go wrong with stove top, lol. I'll try it with some oil as I've just ran out of butter, sigh...still think butter's better. Butter is love my mom used to say. πŸ˜‚

I usually use an online verse review that gives many different translations and then choose the KJV or the New International Version unless those are not really understandable and in that case I go with a different version.

        Hi John,
It's a test I'm doing from the outside so I can check here on the back end of the website to make sure things are working right. For a while, even when multiple comments and ratings had already been left, I was getting errors that said that no "aggregate ratings" had been collected when, in fact, they had. I can test the system this way so that no other flags are triggered. Thanks for understanding, I appreciate it!
