Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s)

Will This Keep The Buns Fresh?

Yes! Absolutely! This will keep those buns fresh and if you keep adding to your stockpile OR using as you need them, you’ll always have a supply of hamburger buns on hand!

Can I Even Freeze a Hamburger Bun?

Yep, that’s what this whole thing is all about! No problem you CAN freeze a hamburger bun!

Can I Just Put The Whole Package In The Freezer As Is?

Actually, you can if you are going to use them in a couple of days. However, buns stay fresh for a pretty long time these days and if you are going to use them in a couple of days, then why would you want to freeze them?

The problem is that frozen buns without proper protection from the freezer will be dry and they want to split and break easily after being frozen.

Therefore, you’ll want to follow these simple instructions for freezing so that your buns stay fresh and supple!

How Long Do Hamburger Buns Last in the Freezer?

You will want to use your buns within 3 months. After that, they will be a little to dry and crumbly to enjoy with your juicy hamburger!

How Do I Thaw A Frozen Hamburger Bun?

You can choose one of the following methods….

  1. Remove the package of hamburger buns from the freezer the morning you plan to use them and allow to sit out on the counter. They will be completely thawed in a few hours.
  2. Set a colander over a steaming bowl of water. Place the buns in the colander and then cover the colander with a clean cotton kitchen towel. This acts as a steamer and the buns will be thawed shortly.
  3. Sprinkle a few drops of water in a zip lock type bag (or in the plastic bag that the buns come in), place the bun in the bag and microwave for 5 seconds. Check the bun and repeat as necessary.
  4. Set the bun on top of the toaster, set it to toast, the bun will warm to a thawed level in no time at all.

Tips and Tricks for How to Freeze and Thaw Hamburger Buns

  • Wrap the buns individually and then place them in a freezer safe bag, this helps to protect the buns from the harsh conditions in the freezer.
  • Make sure to use a freezer safe bag for the buns! A typical storage bag doesn’t offer enough protection in the cold cold deep freeze!
  • Freeze the buns as soon as you know that you have left overs. Stale buns that are frozen will still be stale when they come out of the freezer.
  • To thaw the hamburger buns, simply lay them out on the counter the day you plan to use them or use one of the methods I discuss above.

A VERSE TO SHARE

Last night my granddaughter shared with me something disparaging that someone on the other side of her family said to her. It was about lacking faith in her abilities to pursue her own dreams.

First of all, I have all kinds of feeling about telling a child that she can’t pursue her lofty dreams.

Why would anyone do that?

Secondly, God intends for us to persevere despite what anyone tells us or who stands in our way, especially as we fight the good fight.

James 1:12

Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.

Could you clarify a couple of things please? 1) Do you need to place each bun in it's own ziplock freezer bag or can you place as many as fit in it? Is it different if you'll only be defrosting one bun at a time? 2) When defrosting, are you supposed to leave the bun wrapped in plastic, in the plastic & ziplock or totally unwrap it? And do you do it the same way for every method of defrosting? Thanks so much!

Hi Amy, Depending on how long you will keep the bag of buns frozen and how you will use them will make the decision about your questions. If you plan to use the entire bag at once, (ex. Dinner for the family will require the entire bag) then just place them all in a single zip lock freezer bag. If you will be using them individually (ex. you live alone and only need one at a time, then wrap them individually and place into a larger bag. You'll want to leave it in a bag to defrost so that it doesn't get hard while defrosting.

I wrap individual buns in plastic wrap, and put in a freezer bag. When thawing, I wrap the frozen bun in a paper towel microwave 30 seconds on defrost or power level 5. Then the buns goes in the skillet where I've just cooked the burgers to warm. We think they are perfect. I hate wasting buns.
