Pressure Cooker Boiled Peanuts

Sitting on a big rock, enjoying those warm, salty, soft and pea-nutty gobs of joy served in a paper sack from a roadside stand with an ice cold coca-cola in a bottle are some of my best childhood memories. My childhood version hosts a spurious character dipping slimy peanuts from a questionable warming box but in my grown up version, Pressure Cooker Boiled Peanuts are served up by me!

They go great with some smoked pork chops!

What Are Boiled Peanuts?

Boiled Peanuts are a southern delicacy (or at least they used to be). As a kid, one would find boiled peanuts along majorly traveled state roads and often in conjunction with a fruit stand.

The hand painted signs advertising “fresh watermelon, peaches” also notified the passerby of “Hot Boiled Peanuts”.

Nearly always, the handmade stand would sit just off the road under a large shade tree. The parking area covered with sand and red dirt where the grass had worn away. Given a moment, the grouchy and wary attendant would become chatty with “where ya’ll headed today” as he dipped out peanuts and rung up peaches.

The great news? No seedy road side stands (not that you can even find one anymore). No waiting for vacation to enjoy boiled peanuts!

You can make these pressure cooker boiled peanuts yourself at home in your pressure cooker! These work in an electric or stovetop pressure cooker or in an instant pot.

What Kind of Peanuts Do I Use?

You need to find RAW peanuts (kind of like what you feed squirrels in your backyard).

I bought mine on Amazon because it isn’t something that you find in my local grocery store.

Here’s a link to the peanuts that I bought, you can go there and look around to compare prices. Loaves and Dishes is an affiliate of Amazon and does receive a commission should you decide to purchase. All earnings go to support the work here plus 10% is tithed.

Tips and Tricks for Pressure Cooker Boiled Peanuts

  • Definitely wash your peanuts with warm water before cooking. Remember that unlike roasted peanuts, whatever is on the shell will be cooked into the peanuts and you want them clean.
  • Remove stems and sticks and any obvious dirt from your peanuts.
  • Remove the broken and poor peanuts and discard or save to give to the birds.
  • Use Kosher salt. If you are using table salt, only use 1/2.
  • It’s difficult to overcook these, so don’t worry if you go over on the time. I’ve cooked them for as long as 2 1/4 hours and still had good results.
  • Pour the water off and let the peanuts drain in a colander then save in a zip lock container for up to 5 days.

Notes

  • The amount of time you hold these peanuts at full high pressure is up to you. The longer they cook, the softer they become. I’ve done everything from 75 minutes up to 2 hours. A Verse To Share

Ever feel convicted by a verse? How about a whole chapter? I’m going to point you towards the book of James. There’s lots of good stuff in there about how everyone is a child of God. We honor God by treating all people the same. In addition, faith alone isn’t enough. Works are required.

So, I ask you, “what are your works”? Let’s see them.

Have you been busy multiplying what God has given you? Have you been lazy and slothful sitting and playing on your phone instead?

Did you take responsibility for everything you should have or did you pawn that off on someone else and let someone else strain under the yoke of carrying your weight?

Your faith is demonstrated in your works. You

James 2:24

You see that a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by faith alone.
